A yummy crunchy treat that’s so easy anyone and everyone can make it! These 3-ingredient chocolate crunch doughnuts are perfect for when you’re craving something sweet, but don’t feel like baking or making anything too complicated.
This recipe is probably the most popular recipe on my blog to date. I think the reason is that they’re so easy and only call for 3 ingredients. They’re also really easy to adjust – you can add anything to them and you can shape them however you like. I love using doughnuts mould, but you can use any moulds you have on hand, or even use a cake tin and cut them up into bars/squares.
These chocolate crunch doughnuts do remind me of a crunch chocolate bar, but a dark version, which in my opinion is so much better! I used 70% dairy-free dark chocolate, but it will work with any chocolate you prefer. I usually make them with quinoa pops, but I’ve also made them with protein crispies, puffed brown rice and rice krispies. I’m obsessed with chocolate treats that are also crunchy. They’re so addictive and satisfying!
I’m not a big fan of doughnuts, mainly because they’re way too oily and sickly sweet. I do however LOVE using doughnut moulds to make anything but doughnuts. Like these chocolate chip doughnut cookies, or rose chocolate doughnuts, which are more like doughnut shaped mini cakes. I thought it would be a fun idea to use a doughnut mould for this recipe too. Mini doughnut moulds work best as I feel regular sized doughnut moulds are too big. If regular size doughnut moulds is all you have available, you can still use them and cut the doughnut in half, although they won’t be as cute.
Reasons why you need to make these 3-ingredient chocolate crunch doughnuts:
- They’re no-bake
- Easy to make
- Only call for 3-ingredients
- Vegan
- Gluten-free
- Dairy-free
- Can be made nut-free
- Adjustable to linking and dietary needs
- And they’re so cute!

Ingredients
- 200g dark chocolate
- 25g quinoa pops* or puffed brown rice, protein crispies, rice krispies, etc.
- 4 tbsp tahini or nut-butter
Instructions
Break up the chocolate into a heatproof bowl. You can either melt it in the microwave, stirring every minute or so, or you canplace it on top of a small pan of simmering water until it has completely melted.
Mix in the tahini/nut-butter, then fold in the quinoa pops.
Divide the mixture between 18 mini doughnut rings. Place in the fridge for 1-2 hours or until the chocolate has set.

What a cute little candy recipe! Perfect for those little chocolate hankerings where you also need a good crunch! Rice krispies used to be one of my favorite cereals too. I want to try making this with puffed quinoa or puffed millet too!

Do you mean we have to store it in the freezer for 5 days until it’s edible?
NadiaJune 4, 2018 at 8:16 pm - Reply
No you can eat them as soon as they’ve set (after 1-2 hours in the fridge)
NicolaAugust 21, 2018 at 6:57 pm - Reply
Seriously? Have you ever heard of a recipe that calls for the food to be frozen for days before it becomes edible? Have you never eaten Rice Krispies, chocolate or peanut butter without having frozen them for days beforehand? Use a little common sense.

Hey Nicola 🙂 It’s ok that she asked the question. I’m always asking questions that some may consider obvious, that’s how I learn. She might be a beginner and not know much about food preparation. It’s all good 🙂

You can use different moulds or you can set the mixture in a cake pan and slice them into bars. You might need to double the recipe depending on the size of the pan. Hope that answers your question.

Do you know what the calories are in each? Also where do you get puffed quinoa?
MaeAugust 9, 2018 at 8:05 pm - Reply
I bought the puffed quinoa in the Bulk Barn but decided not to use it as it is not crunchy.; more like puffed wheat. Better to use rice crispies or even crunchy corn flake cereal.

What other molds can I make these in? I want to make smaller versions for a bake sale. Maybe I can try using an ice cube tray? Any other suggestions?
NadiaJune 15, 2018 at 8:21 pm - Reply
Any moulds should work including ice trays. Although I would suggest silicon moulds as they’re easier to remove the chocolates from.

What brand did you use?
ThxNadiaJuly 17, 2018 at 11:34 am - Reply
I just use dark chocolate 70% cocoa solids or above tend to not have dairy. Just check the ingredients 😉

Hi, you can make your own chocolate with coconut oil, cocoa powder and a bit of vanilla essence and some honey to sweeten. Before I found this recipe I made rice crispy chocolate with my homemade chocolate and peppermint essence. I poured it over rice crispies and let it set and sliced into chunks. No peanut butter just the homemade chocolate and the crisps with a mint flavour. They were pretty good. 🙂 I’m going to try yours Nadia with the nut butter. Looks good.

Just found this recipe, sounds delicious. On problem, major nut allergies in this house, what do you suggest as a substitute? Thanks.
NadiaJuly 17, 2018 at 11:35 am - Reply
It should still work without the nut butter, or you can substitute it with some coconut oil 🙂
GwenAugust 8, 2018 at 3:33 pm - Reply
Try using a seed butter. Sunflower seed butter or make you own with any seed you like with a food processor or high speed blender. Just think of something you would like with the chocolate.
TiffJuly 2, 2018 at 6:22 am - Reply
I agree with coconut oil base instead of the nut butter. What is a better alternative for the sweetness? Agave? Honey?
NadiaJuly 17, 2018 at 11:36 am - Reply
Both honey and agave will work just as well 🙂

I used to make my own chocolate crispies but I would add raisins to mine, sometimes walnuts or pecans. I use Lindt 90% and add stevia for sweetening a bit.

I am interested in using shaped ice cube trays to make these. They are silicone. Do I need to coat them with a spray or will they easily come out of th molds? Are the protein crispies found at places like Trader Joe’s or Whole Foods? I can’t wait to try these for our next get together. Thanks.
NadiaAugust 1, 2018 at 8:54 am - Reply
If you’re using silicon moulds you don’t need to oil them. I got my crispies from the UK, so not sure if they would have them available in different countries. Rice crispies or puffed quinoa will work just as well 🙂

Delicious and so quick! I had some Lily’s chocolate chips with Stevia, but not enough, so I broke up a couple of squares of Lindt 90% dark chocolate bar. After I nuked that with regular Skippy’s peanut butter with nuts. It only has a couple of carbs and it’s so low that spread out, it’s like nothing. If you want them to be shiny, use coconut oil instead. I added the Rice Crispys and some cinnamon. I used a pan that you make ice cream sandwich cookies with. It is so quick and easy! Thank you so much. This is so helpful to stay on a Keto plan. I hated to give up all sugar and this is so satisfying!
Susan YakusSeptember 24, 2019 at 12:06 am - Reply
Edit: I also used some liquid Stevia for extra sweeting.

Well here it is August 2020. I tweaked this a bit, now that better sweetener has come out. I melted the chocolate, peanut butter and coconut oil in the microwave. I used the Lindt 90% cocoa chocolate bar. I used the same recipe, only I added 3 big tablespoons of Swerve confectioners sugar. Then about 1/4 tsp of vanilla and a 1/2 tsp. peppermint extract. Same amount of peanut butter and an equal amount of coconut oil. Dropped them into a couple of ice cube trays and put in the freezer. Wonderful!
